MISCONCEPTION #1 – You should wait as long as possible before cleaning your carpets, upholstery and leather.
This is simply not true. In fact, dirt is very abrasive, just like sandpaper. Every time you walk on your carpets you grind dirt into the fibres. This is like using a knife on your carpets causing it to wear out faster. A dirty carpet does not last as long as a clean carpet. A good thorough vacuuming on a regular basis is very important but this is not enough on its own. The longer you wait to clean your carpet the more damage you cause.
MISCONCEPTION #2 – The only reason to clean you carpet, upholstery and leather is to make them look better and remove the dirt.
My philosophy from day one has been to clean carpets for 2 reasons. The first is for appearance. Everyone wants their carpets to look better. The second reason is for health. As you probably know, outdoor air contains pollens, fungi, bacteria, smog, cigarette smoke and hundreds of other pollutants. When your family enters your home, you carry these pollutants with you. They travel on your hair, clothes, shoes, your pets and anything else that goes outside. From there these pollutants end up on your carpets, upholstery, and area rugs.
These pollutants become trapped in a viscous cycle circulating over and over in your home. If you or a family member suffers from allergy related symptoms, cleaning with our system will help alleviate many of your concerns. Not only should you clean to remove the dirt, you should also clean for you and your family’s health.
MISCONCEPTION #3 – Who ever offers the lowest price is the company you should hire.
Maybe. But not always. Sometimes the low price you see advertised is not for the service you want performed. You and I both know you get what you pay for, and if it sounds too go to be true, it probably is.
That is not to say that there aren’t good deals out there but you still need to equate price with value. After all, your carpets and upholstery are an investment, not to mention the health related concerns with long drying times and harsh chemicals.
MISCONCEPTION #4 – Hot water damages your carpet.
Year ago, many people believed this was true because their carpets were damaged by “technicians” who didn’t know how to properly clean using hot water. But today, we know it’s false. By washing and then rinsing your carpet with hot water, your carpet is thoroughly cleaned–in the same way that the person who showers and then rinses off the dirt and soap will be much cleaner than the person who takes only a sponge bath. Obviously, each carpet cleaner will be biased towards his own method. And each method does have advantages. So I suggest you look to what carpet manufacturers say. Shaw Industries, the largest carpet manufacturer in the world, recommends only hot water extraction cleaning.
MISCONCEPTION #5 – Any honest carpet cleaning company should be able to give you an exact price quote over the telephone.
I wish this were true, but it isn’t. Honest, reputable carpet cleaning companies almost never price carpet cleaning by the room. Instead, carpet cleaning is usually priced by the square foot. So if you’d like me to tell you the exact cost of cleaning your carpet, I need to know the exact number of square feet that you want cleaned. To get an accurate measurement, I use a measuring wheel to calculate the exact size of the carpet area.
